Hotel Snapshot
Located in the heart of Jerez de la Frontera—birthplace of sherry, and home to the Royal Andalusian School of Equestrian Art—Casa Palacio Maria Luisa is a 19th-century palace-turned-boutique hotel that has lived several lives: family home, city casino, and now an intimate 21-room retreat.
Design + Character
The original palace layout remains intact, from the plant-filled colonnaded atrium (now topped with a glass roof) to the wraparound gallery above, where bedroom suites open onto views of the courtyard below. Architect Pedro Rodríguez de Pineda and interior designer Alejandra Pombo led the restoration in collaboration with Jerez's heritage office, reimagining the space in a moody neoclassical style—lacquered black doors against polished marble, gilded antique mirrors, and a restrained palette of black, white and grey punctuated by patterned wallpapers, fresh flowers and subtle oriental accents.
The Rooms
The 21 rooms vary in size and aspect, each with its own character. The Maria Luisa Suite overlooks the garden courtyard, while the Jerez Suite includes a private patio and separate lounge. Premium and Deluxe rooms offer interior patios or balconies facing the main plaza. Interiors are traditional with a contemporary edge—plush sofas, marble bathrooms with twin sinks and separate tubs and showers, Nespresso machines, and minibars. Beds can be tailored with a pillow and sheet menu, including Egyptian cotton, linen or silk options, and guests can choose from four bathroom amenity lines, including Codage, the French clinical skincare brand.
Food and Drink
The hotel's T22 restaurant (named after the building's street address, Calle Tornería 22) occupies a front-facing room accessible from both the main square and hotel lobby. The decor is jewel-box opulent—velvet chairs, fringed table lamps, plump cushions—and has a cozy feel. Chef Verónica Muñoz crafts seasonal dishes from Andalusian ingredients, combining traditional techniques with contemporary presentation. The autumn/winter menu includes generous burrata on roasted eggplant, red tuna tartare "Gadira" with bok choy, and squid stuffed with lobster. The wine list naturally showcases Spanish classics and Jerez's signature sherries—finos, manzanillas, olorosos, Pedro Ximénez.
The Terrace Bar has a separate menu for courtyard dining, while the English Pub near the entrance is a nod to the British influence on Jerez's sherry trade. Breakfast is served at your table: sliced fruit, bread baskets, Spanish cheeses and jamón, house preserves, olive oil, blended tomato, and eggs cooked to order.
Amenities
The rooftop terrace houses a compact gym with Technogym machines, weights and yoga mats. Personal training sessions are bookable on request. The plunge pool sits elevated to one side with wheelchair-accessible entry, surrounded by loungers for lazy afternoons. In-room spa treatments are available, while the 24-hour concierge can arrange wine and sherry experiences, along with sherry bodega tours, tickets to the equestrian school, and airport transfers. Complimentary bicycles are available for exploring the old town. Additional services include 24-hour room service, dry cleaning, and a business center for work needs.
