Hotel Snapshot

Opened in the 1920s, Hotel Montalembert is one of the Left Bank’s original boutique hotels, and it still feels very much at home here. Tucked onto a quiet side street, the property feels like a well-kept secret – one of those places you’d only know about if you’d stayed before or had someone in-the-know point you in its direction.

From the start, it was designed to be discreet rather than grand, drawing in writers and artists who gravitated toward Saint-Germain-des-Prés over the Right Bank’s buzzier addresses. Long before ‘boutique hotel’ became shorthand for the hottest stays, Montalembert was already operating that way. Today, this hotel is part of B Signature Hotels & Resorts, a family-owned collection known for design-driven, eco-conscious properties across France and beyond.

What makes Hotel Montalembert so special is how it naturally it fits into Saint-Germain. Bookshops, galleries, and corner cafés dot the streets, while the Musée d’Orsay, the Louvre, and the Seine are all an easy walk away. Staying here makes Paris feel familiar, even on a first visit.

Design & Character

Hotel Montalembert is perfectly chic yet genuinely comfortable. The design is modern and sleek, layered with colorful yet tasteful furniture, dark wood accents, flourishing plants, and small details that add character, like an artsy bookshelf and a rotating sand display in the lobby. There’s also an old-school elevator that fits about two people at a time, a small touch that adds charm and makes it feel like stepping back into the 1920s.

The hotel’s character reflects its Saint-Germain surroundings. Downstairs, the restaurant and bar are lively without feeling overcrowded, drawing a mix of guests and locals throughout the day. The atmosphere is relaxed and social rather than scene-y, giving the hotel an energy that mirrors the Left Bank itself (read: quietly cool).

The Rooms

Rooms at Hotel Montalembert are polished but cozy, designed to feel more like a well-appointed Paris apartment than a traditional hotel room. The real star of the show is the view: many rooms and suites look right onto the top of the Eiffel Tower – a detail that somehow never gets old.

Inside, the rooms are refined and comfortable. Beds are large and inviting, making it easy to fully unwind after long days out, and the layouts are spacious by Paris standards, with elvated features like separate toilets, seating areas, and, in some cases, private patios. Bathrooms are especially well done, with deep soaking tubs, rainfall showers, oversized sinks, and plenty of counter space. Overall, the rooms feel like chicest version of home.

The Food & Drink

The dining options are a nice touch and very much in line with the vibe of the rest of the hotel. Montalembert Restaurant is aprocahable, with a  menu leans modern French. The bar is one of the hotel’s quieter highlights. Centered around a cozy fireplace and framed by bookshelves, it feels like a laidback gathering spot rather than a destination bar. It’s ideal for a celebratory drink or a nightcap, and it’s easy to see why it’s long been a favorite among regulars.

The Amenities

Amenities at Hotel Montalembert are simple yet appreciated. There’s a full spa on-site, which is a nice surprise for a hotel of this size and a good way to wind down. Beyond the spa, there’s a small fitness room, very helpful concierge service, and room service for nights when staying in makes sense.

Location & Neighborhood Recs

The Saint-Germain-des-Prés address is one of the hotel’s best features. Right outside the hotel, guests can find antique shops, bookshops, galleries, and cafés and brasseries. Plus, the Seine is just a short walk away (around 10 minutes), making it ideal for morning strolls or evening walks, while the Musée d’Orsay and the Louvre are close enough to visit without turning the day into a production.
