Hotel Snapshot

For bourbon connoisseurs and boutique hotel lovers, passions collide at Provenance Estate. This 1850s Georgian-style mansion set upon a 121-acre Virginia estate not only serves as home to one of the region’s newest (and fastest-growing) producers, but is also a fabulous 9-room property that offers guests a unique glimpse at Virginia’s history and hospitality.

Design & Character

Provenance Estate is a true labor of love, lovingly restored over the course of years to its current glory. The Georgian-style architecture is preserved from its original history as a mid-19th-century home, and the team behind Provenance has taken great care to keep as many of the original features (from floors to mouldings) as possible, while injecting modern luxuries and finishes.

From start to finish, the Provenance experience is bespoke. Signage at this sprawling property is kept to a minimum, maintaining a sense of intimacy and quiet refinement – arriving at the property feels like arriving at your wealthy relative’s estate rather than a publicly accessible stay. Walk through the front doors of Provenance to experience elegant interiors with inviting lounges at seemingly every turn, from the warm living room to the impressive dining space fit for family dinners.

We love the little surprises that the property has to offer, from the stunning views from the back porch to the intimate reading rooms to the nostalgic game room in the (surprisingly desirable) basement. And thanks to thoughtful landscaping throughout the property, you’ll be able to fully appreciate the sprawling grounds that showcase the true beauty of Virginia’s hunt country.

The Rooms

The Manor House of Provenance Estate feels like the quintessential micro-luxury experience – rather than renting out one room at a time, the Manor House is exclusively available as an entire home, capable of housing a large family or smaller corporate event.

Rooms are elegant, historically preserved spaces, each decorated with their own unique character and furnishings. We love the thoughtful details present throughout the property, from carefully sourced easy chairs to beautifully embroidered bedspreads, and the Molton Brown bath amenities certainly don’t hurt either. Some rooms come with en-suite baths, whereas others share a spacious bathroom perfect for family members.

We absolutely love spending time in the luxurious library upstairs, complete with a fireplace, two overstuffed easy chairs, and of course, walls absolutely lined with books (as well as carefully placed lighting for maximum enjoyment at all hours of the day).

Food & Drink

Naturally, as a bourbon producer first, Provenance is all about the drink. Guests at the Manor House will undoubtedly take part in one of the property’s Bourbon Experiences, a series of curated tastings exploring aroma, flavor, and finish. The property offers both private and group barrel experiences, from tasting straight from the barrel to selecting and customizing your own bottles (complete with special labels reflecting your unique blend).

If you so choose, you can also elect to add a chef-curated, farm-to-table experience featuring seasonal menus and Provenance Bourbon pairings for a particularly special experience. And trust us, when you have that meal on the back patio by a roaring fire and enjoy a snifter of bourbon to finish, it’s difficult to top the experience.

Folks electing to stay overnight will also wake up to a centennial breakfast, served in the Manor’s dining room, which may just be the best send-off into the day that we can imagine.

Amenities

Amenities at this unique property include an expansive outdoor patio with a fire pit, which is just as delightful on warmer summer days (sans fire pit) as on colder winter nights. You won’t want to say goodbye without saying hello to resident donkeys, George and Martha, while exploring the expansive grounds. And of course, don’t forget about the bourbon experiences.

Location & Neighborhood Recs

Nestled in Middleburg, Virginia, in the heart of Hunt and Wine Country, Provenance Estate is the perfect jumping-off point to all that the region has to offer. The property is surrounded by boutique restaurants like Nomad, wineries like Cana Vineyards, and local farms like Gathering Springs that inspire the estate’s menus. And with an ideal location less than an hour from Washington, D.C., this peaceful, countryside setting may feel like a different era (or world altogether), but it remains easily accessible.
