Hotel Snapshot
Plenty of hotels tap into the pulse of their surroundings. None match the intentionality or imagination of Colima 71. Designed by Alberto Kalach, the 16-key boutique and member of Mr & Mrs Smith channels the creative buzz of Roma Norte, a pocket of Mexico City popular with artists, expats, and tastemakers. Besides the conversation-sparking art, the design-led lobby and cozy nooks provide stylish spots to plop down in between touring, shopping, and waiting for slow-moving travel companions. The service is warm and personal. The team even provides curated guides to cool things to see, do, and eat around the city. Sustainability fits in the broader vision through the use of eco-friendly and upcycled materials.
Design & Character
The captivating art imbues creativity into every corner of the property. The collection is curated and really shapes the spirit of the hotel. Beyond the masterpieces—notably the suspended sculpture made of upcycled bike tires created by contemporary artist Darío Escobar— the design is quite sleek and chic. There’s a rounded green velvet sofa and a selection of inspiring coffee table books in the lobby, plus some really fun rocking chairs in the lounge. The back gallery shows off even more works from Mexican artists.
The Rooms
Colima 71 puts an emphasis on art and creativity, but never at the expense of sleep note function. Rooms feel sleek and chic with light wood, beamed ceilings, and built-in wardrobes. Beds are exceedingly comfortable with pillowy mattresses and soft sheets. Dining tables with velvet banquettes are perfect for enjoying breakfast. Suites with street-view terraces add an alfresco spot to start the day. Bathrooms come together with Oaxan black clay, glass showers, and honey-infused bath products made in the Yucatan. Though the chances of guests actually cooking is slim, the kitchenette is still nice to have. And the staff keeps the full-size fridge stocked with cold drinks and pitchers of filtered water,
Food & Drink
Colima 71 doesn’t have a restaurant (not that guests will miss it with the bevy of hit restaurants in Roma Norte), but it does have a staffed coffee bar for lattes and tea, plus a selection of top-shelf booze available on an honesty basis. One of the highlights is breakfast, which includes a choice of savory tamales and avocado toast or oatmeal with pecans, coconut, fruit, and honey. As a special treat, the pastries come fresh from nearby Panadería Rosetta, so you can get your croissant fix without having to queue up at the famous bakery.
Amenities
The art collection is as much an amenity as decor — especially when it comes to the gallery. Guests can make use of the communal lounge areas, courtyards, and workspaces if needed.
Spa & Wellness Scoop
There’s not a dedicated wellness area or fitness center, but the team (instantly reachable via WhatsApp) will gladly arrange an in-room massage or direct you to a great local spa. Casa Pilates CDMX is across the street. Guests also have access to a gym, a 10-minute walk away.
Location & Neighborhood Recs
Colima 71 is located in Roma Norte, one of Mexico City’s coolest neighborhoods with art, shopping, drinking, and dining galore. Within one block of the hotel, guests will find Galería Otra cosa sin nombre CDMX and some of the best tacos in the city at Gonzalitos. Trendy cocktail bars Limantour and Casa Franca, Michelin-touted Tacos del Valle, and 180 Shop for Mexican designers are also a stone’s throw from the hotel.
