Hotel Snapshot
Once a mansion belonging to Dr. Tristão de Bragança Cunha, also known as the “Father of Goan Liberation,” Post Card Cuelim is an intimate hotel that leaves an impact on all who are lucky enough to stay within its storied walls. There are just six rooms across the property, which is entirely anchored around a 350-year-old chapel and immersed in 3,500 acres of emerald paddy fields. It’s timeless, elegant, and rich with Portuguese influence, offering a stark contrast to the image often short-sidedly associated with India.
Design & Character
The atmosphere is quiet and peaceful, so don’t expect late nights or loud guests (and most importantly, avoid being one of those loud guests). Every square-inch feels steeped in the past—think vintage wallpaper, elegant sconces dripping in crystals, and antique furnishings that look straight out of the estate sale of your dreams. The historic chapel is without a doubt the property’s crown jewel, and you’ll find that some parts of the hotel showcase stained glass windows, paying homage to the church's significance. From sweeping verandas to tranquil gardens, Post Card Cuelim captures a slower, more authentic side of Goa that feels far removed from the nearby crowded beach circuits.
The Rooms
With just six rooms across the entire hotel, it doesn’t get more boutique than this. The most basic accommodation style is a luxury room with an accompanying patio. The furnished courtyard is the perfect place to unwind with an iced coffee and a good book in hand, but it’s the 200-year-old coconut trees that really set the scene. The first-floor Cuelim Suite features baroque bones with colonial accents, while the Premier Suite is decidedly Portuguese. Of course, the Dr. TB Cunha Suite is sort of like Postcard’s version of a penthouse, and it was the prominent figure’s actual bedroom when he lived there. Spend your mornings on the sit-out terrace as you take in the surrounding village and nearby Three Kings Chapel.
The Food & Drink
Guests have the option to enjoy breakfast, lunch, and dinner on property, along with 24-hour room service. Fish, curry, and rice are primary ingredients that you'll see across a variety of dishes, but in addition to some of coastal India’s most famous fare, you can also expect a solid selection of international options. Of course, if nothing on the menu piques your interest, the chefs are happy to customize any meal to satisfy your cravings.
The Amenities
If you need to beat the Indian heat but don’t feel like walking to the beach, hit up the outdoor pool for a couple of laps after playing a round of badminton at the on-site court. Indoor amenities include an old-school billiards room and a well-stocked library, but you can also expect all of the standard offerings like high-speed Wi-Fi, complimentary bike rentals, and an attentive concierge service.
Location & Neighborhood Recs
Since Goa is first and foremost a beach destination, guests of the Post Card Cuelim will be pleased to find that the coast is a mere 15-minute walk away. The hotel can also organize a variety of guided outings at your leisure, with popular picks being local surfing lessons, visits to the Salim Ali Bird Sanctuary, or cycle city tours. .
