Hotel Snapshot

Surfers and artists have long loved the sleepy, untouched charm of Comporta, but it’s flown under the radar for most travelers. It was pretty inevitable that this blustery beach community on the west coast of Portugal would eventually make waves with an international crowd. So, where do jetsetters visiting the increasingly popular land of wind-swept sand dunes and rice fields stay? Sublime Comporta, a blissfully breezy five-star retreat tucked on a 17-hectare parcel that’s carpeted with umbrella pines, cork trees, and wildflowers. Reverence for the region's majesty is palpable in everything from the hands-off landscaping and architecture to the cuisine and unhurried pace.

Design & Character

Sustainably constructed indoor/outdoors spaces are decorated with neutral tones and native materials such as white wood and stone. The minimalist design and use of giant glass windows throughout allow the beauty of the bucolic to do its thing, creating an effortlessly chic style that invites relaxation.

The Rooms

Spaced out to enhance the sense of intimacy and privacy, accommodations include contemporary rooms and suites, plus multi-bedroom villas with pools, fireplaces, and terraces. A nod to the fishing port of Carrasqueira, the thatched-roof cabanas overlooking the shimmering lake reflect a genuine spirit and provide gorgeous views.

Food & Drink

Sem Porta takes a conscientious approach to gastronomy that feels attuned with the rest of the property. The breakfast spread trumpets the bounty of nature with all sorts of seasonal fruit, farm-fresh eggs cooked to order, and coffee. The dinner menu takes diners on a culinary journey full of delicious pasture-fed beef, line-caught fish, and just-picked produce. Similarly, Sem Porta Bar mixes cocktails made with local ingredients. Food Circle offers a chef-driven dining experience in the middle of the organic garden. Canalha hits the mark with its relaxed warmth and traditional Portuguese cooking, all delivered with a lighthearted spirit that feels welcoming whether or not you're familiar with bacalhau and black pork. Guests also have access to Beefbar, Davvero, and Davvero Blue at Sublime Sand.
