Set the Scene
Los Feliz is no stranger to eager diners who seek out the neighborhood’s historic haunts, trendy corner cafes, and local dives. Amidst this booming culinary landscape, Mírate stakes its claim inside a multi-level space that pulses with energy. An intimate bar space welcomes guests as they head to a two-story dining experience. Claim your spot under a towering 40-foot tree centrally located in the open-air dining room, or fringed light pieces and wicker furnishing on the second level mezzanine. Designer Alexa Nafisi-Movaghar was inspired by the 1920s colonial furnishings of Oaxaca’s La Verde Antequera, and custom murals by Mexico City-based artist Jorge Telleache enliven the space. With a buzzing house on most nights, Mírate proves it's not just another pretty space, but a serious culinary destination.
What the Food is Like
Mexico City born Chef Alan Sanz utilizes his experiences in Oaxaca, Michoacán, and Argentina to create modern interpretations of quintessential Mexican flavors. Think tangy tomato-nopal vinaigrette, jicama aguachile, and Sonoran-style tacos made with beef fat. Standout dishes include a grilled branzino with al pastor, pineapple cream, and tortillas, Mole Blanco with maitake mushrooms, artichokes, grapes, and pine nuts served with tortillas. A taco campchano with brisket, chorizo, queso, fries, salsa verde cruda on a corn tortilla is a decadent bite worth taking, while the lighter mushroom taco packs an herby punch with avocado mousse and nopales. Vegetarians shouldn’t miss the Mole Blanco with maitake mushrooms, artichokes, grapes, and pine nuts served with tortillas.
Let’s Talk About the Drinks
Cocktails at Mírate are far from an afterthought to the food menu. Under the creative vision of award-winning Beverage Director Max Reis, the drinks here have landed on North America's 50 Best Bars list. His craftsmanship shines with El Guero, an aguachile-inspired margarita, is made with nopales granita, coconut, aguachile, and avocado-washed Don Fulano Fuerte. In the summertime, lean into the slushie offerings, including the La Carinosa with strawberry, chamoy, tomato, san bartolo espadin, and lime. You can also enjoy a curated mezcal collection from Mexico and rare rums, gins, and agave-based spirits.
